A climate for change

The people turned out in good numbers at Brisbane's King George Square on Saturday 9 April in the Rally for Climate Action, despite a forecast of intermittent rain and competition from another public event in the Brisbane CBD.

A crowd of all ages responded enthusiastically to calls for the introduction of a carbon price and for industry and business to support the development of new clean energy industries.

Guest speakers included acting Prime Minister Wayne Swann, deputy national director of GetUp Sam Mclean, and Queensland Public Sector Union President Vivienne Doogan.

Similar rallies took place in Melbourne and Sydney in recent weeks.

If left unchecked, climate change and global warming may have a devastating impact on ocean ecosystems.
